# PhilOS

PhilOS is a free, local-first builder for portable `.philos` AI collaboration profiles. A profile is plain text that can be uploaded or pasted into a text-capable AI system to communicate a user’s working preferences, source-traceability expectations, collaboration modes, edit permissions, and drift-check signals.

## Important limits

PhilOS is an alignment aid, not a model, memory layer, policy override, or compliance guarantee. A status or audit line is a traceability signal only. AI systems vary in their ability to access files, retain context, follow instructions, browse links, and disclose model/version information.

## Optional experimental tools

The direct-linkable `/tools` route is intentionally excluded from ordinary search indexing while the tool collection is incomplete. Tools are opt-in collaboration aids. They may be invoked by a user, suggested by an AI with a stated task-based reason, or accepted after an AI offers one. They are not automatic rules and do not guarantee originality, improvement, or compliance.
